Queen Elizabeth ‘found Trump very rude’

A new biography of Queen Elizabeth claims that she found Donald Trump to be “very rude”.
The late monarch, who hosted the former president twice during her reign, is said to have disliked the way he looked over her shoulder as if “in search of others more interesting”. It was also suggested that she believed his relationship with his wife, Melania, must involve “some sort of arrangement”.
The claims are made by the writer Craig Brown in a new book, A Voyage Around the Queen, which has been serialised in the Daily Mail.
Brown wrote: “Over the course of her reign, Her Majesty entertained many controversial foreign leaders, including Bashar al-Assad, Robert Mugabe, Idi Amin, Donald Trump, Emperor Hirohito and Vladimir Putin. She may not have found their company convivial; upon their departure, she may even have voiced a discreet word of disapproval.
“A few weeks after President Trump’s visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him ‘very rude’: she particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting.
“She also believed President Trump ‘must have some sort of arrangement’ with his wife Melania, or else why would she have remained married to him? For his part, Donald Trump was confident he had been her favourite guest ever.”
Trump, who is campaigning to be re-elected in November, has spoken in the past of his admiration for the late Queen’s sense of duty.
When they first met in July 2018, Trump’s visit was met with protests in London including a giant balloon depicting him as a baby. He met Elizabeth over tea at Windsor Castle, with no other senior royals present, and inspected a guard of honour.
Trump was said to have kept her waiting for ten minutes in 27C heat and walked in front of her while inspecting a guard of honour, leaving the monarch, who was 92, trailing behind.
When Elizabeth died in September 2022, Trump issued a statement saying that he and his wife would “always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humour”.
